  Fathead Minnows
Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) are also called “tuffies” at your local bait shop. They are occasionally confused with Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) which are smaller and occur naturally in much of Tennessee and Georgia waters.  Fathead Minnows are native to still waters in the north central US and very rarely live beyond 2 years old.  Most of these fish are cultured in Wisconsin, Michigan or Minnesota.  We use these fish primarily in developing newly stocked lakes while the bass in the lake are less than 12 inches long.
