  Grass Carp
Grass Carp (aka – white amur) are valuable tools at controlling unwanted vegetation in lakes.  They originate from Asia and have been distributed world wide as a foodfish and for aquatic weed control.  They spawn in rivers and grow rapidly (they can weigh over 90 pounds!)  They put up an excellent fight when hooked although they are reluctant to bite most lures.  The meat from them is delicious but the large number of fine bones that are in the meat make them difficult to eat. They eat a wide variety of foods in your pond but eat mostly aquatic vegetation. They prefer some plants over others so the stocking density needed to control
a particular weed problem should take into consideration how much they like to eat those particular weeds and how quickly the owner wants to see results.  Stocking the correct sized fish is important too.  Lakes with large numbers of big bass should stock larger fish or they will be eaten (they are expensive bait!).  We typically stock between 5 and 10 Grass Carp to the acre but severe weed problems may require as many as 20 fish per acre.  Triploid Grass Carp must be used in Tennessee and Georgia.  We are registered, licensed Grass Carp dealers and have an excellent supplier of quality fish any size.
